30 year anniversary

This year New Classics’ is proud to be celebrating our 30th anniversary.

Originally Sara Zook started the Company because she couldn’t find the custom capability she needed for her interior design clients’ needs. During that search for a specific project, Sara realized that the design market in general lacked a high-end, custom furniture company that could create beautiful pieces of heirloom quality.

New Classics’ iconic C-Leg table debut at Holly Hunt’s Chicago showroom in 1989. The C-Leg design remains one of our most popular due to it’s elegance and versatility. It was the beginning of our love of designing and making dining tables — a passion that continues to this day.

In the early 1990’s, Sara decided to open her woodworking shop so that she could expand New Classics’ offerings and better oversee the quality. Since that time, New Classics’ has been making custom pieces in our Denver-based shop.

Why Colorado?

Sara went to school at the University of Colorado in Boulder and loved everything about the State. When she had the chance, she moved back to Denver from her hometown of Chicago.

Her daughter, Kirsten, joined the Company in early 1997 after returning from working in Hong Kong in the financial industry.

SUMMIT OF THE EIGHT

In June 1997, New Classics’ was award the commission to make the main conference table for the world leaders at the Summit of The Eight which was hosted at the library in downtown Denver. Designed by a Denver architectural firm, we were asked to engineer a table that span twelve and half feet in diameter cantilevering over a single pedestal base. Additionally, the summit organizers required the table to be made in parts so it could be inspected onsite prior to final construction.

The design was done in cherry and aspen woods to form a mountain themed motif symbolizing Denver and the Rocky Mountains. After the Summit’s successful conclusion, the table was donated to the main Denver Public Library and can still be seen today.
